One of the most important things about being an Internet marketer is knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are. Believe it or not, we all can’t be experts in everything. I certainly am not. So we need to recognize where we may be lacking a bit and do our best to either minimize those weaknesses or find other ways to take advantage of them, while at the same time focusing on our strengths. In this article, I am going to try to explain what I mean.

I’ve been marketing online for over five years now. Still, I am not an expert at everything. There are many areas of Internet marketing that I am not so great at. One of them is graphic design. It certainly doesn’t help when you are color blind. Well, in order to minimize this weakness, because I do have an ability to use software, I make my graphics as simple as possible. My ecovers are not flashy but they are functional and do look good enough to present a professional appearance.

Now, if you’re absolutely horrible at something and even by keeping it simple you can’t get it done right, then your other option is to outsource. Let’s say that I couldn’t even use the software to make a decent ecover. Well, there are plenty of people out there who can. Say you can’t afford the service. Well, there is always bartering. That’s right. Offer something of yours, either a skill or a product, that the other person can use. Many times other marketers will offer their services for something that they themselves need.

For example, let’s say I couldn’t make graphics at all. I am a pretty decent writer if I have to say so myself. Well, many graphic designers don’t have very good writing skills. Maybe they’re first starting out and need a sales page. You could offer to write them one for a graphics package. Certainly something can be worked out that will be in both of your best interests.

In the meantime, while you’re having others do the things that you’re not very good at, you can be spending the time doing the things that you are good at. This is a much better use of your time and in the long run will make you more productive with your business.

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is key to running a successful business.

Understanding traditional marketing will help a site owner better understand internet marketing, but is not the only information they need. In order to get the word out through the internet businesses must incorporate several marketing techniques. Each and every technique is a good way to get the word to customers, however using them together can increase traffic immensely. Developing a strategy for internet marketing is the best way to create a good cyber business.

If you’re interested in internet marketing, affiliate marketing, information products, work at home opportunities, or other forms of online business, the sheer amount of information available can be truly daunting. It doesn’t help that much of that information is heavily laden with industry jargon and insider buzzwords.

Fortunately, getting started in internet marketing doesn’t have to be so complicated. This three-part article series lays out the three fundamental components of internet marketing and shows you how to bring them together in your own online business.

At its most basic level, an internet marketing business is no different from any other business. You really only need three things to be successful: a product, customers, and a way to market your products to your customers. Of course, these components are a little different on the internet than they are in your community.

This article, Part 1 of 3 in the series, focuses on the first component of your internet marketing business: The Product.

Just about any product and service you can imagine is bought and sold on the internet. The first key to a successful internet marketing business is figuring out exactly what you want to sell.

Producer or Affiliate?

The first question you have to answer is whether you want to create your own product or sell someone else’s. If you’re just getting started in internet marketing, IM-101 recommends that you learn the ropes by selling someone else’s product. This is called “affiliate marketing,” but this is just a fancy name for “selling someone else’s product online.”

Choosing the Right Kinds of Products

Once you’ve decided to become an affiliate, you have to determine the kinds of products you want to sell. On the internet, products can be placed into two categories: physical products and digital products. Again, IM-101 recommends that you get started by selling digital products, simply because it’s the fastest and easiest way to learn the business.

Digital products, or information products, are most commonly electronic books, or eBooks. These products are just like the books you buy at your local bookstore, except that they exist only as digital files you can open and read on your computer. By far the most common format for these files is called Portable Document Format (PDF), which can be read by a free downloadable program from Adobe called Acrobat Reader.

In addition to eBooks, you may also decide to sell software, audio files, videos, or any other kind of information that can be created, stored, and distributed in a digital format.

Where to Find Products

Okay, you’ve decided you start your internet marketing business by selling other people’s digital information products. Where do you find them? The single largest repository of these digital information products is ClickBank.

Go to ClickBank and browse through the Marketplace. You’ll find more than 10,000 digital information products to choose from. There are more than 100,000 affiliates registered with ClickBank who are actively selling these products. You’ll be joining their ranks.

The final step is to set up an affiliate account at ClickBank and select a few products to sell. Five products is a good number to start with.

Which products should you choose? You should choose to promote and sell those products that your customers most want to buy, of course. To answer this question, you have to figure out who your customer is.

This is the subject of the second article in this series, Internet Marketing Success: 3 Basic Components (Part 2: The Customer) [http://www.im-101.com/article2.html].

Getting traffic to your website is on the minds of everyone involved in internet marketing. I’ve never been a big fan of pay per click, and I much prefer to get my web traffic for free.

Surprisingly, this isn’t as hard as it sounds. The internet is a place full of limitless opportunities, you just need to be consistent and follow through with what you start.

One of my most successful methods for getting free traffic has been doing exactly what you see here today, article marketing. Article marketing simply involves writing an article in your subject, and submitting it to the top article directory or directories.

I’m a big fan of EzineArticles, I have found that I have gotten my best results from them. I also recommend goarticles and searchwarp.

When I create an article, I think about my niche and brainstorm about the things my potential website visitors would want to read about. Once you get in the swing of writing articles, I think you’ll find you can crank them out rather quickly.

It is incredibly important that when you write your article, you take special care with the bio box. This is where you get a chance to really sell yourself, and convince your readers that they absolutely NEED to come check out your website (where you can further hit them up for a sale!). I try to put credibility in my bio box, as well as am sure to offer them something that they really need.

So how then, am I going to convince you to check out my site? By offering you more ways to get free traffic, of course!

The term marketing mix is a popular one used to describe the main components in any marketing campaign. The four P’s include product, price, promotion and place. Marketing on the internet is not that much different. The only difference with marketing online is the environment where the marketing takes place.

The Product:

The easiest way to find a product to start marketing online is through affiliate products. Affiliate marketing is when someone markets a product that is not of their own creation for a percentage of the sale. There are thousands of merchants that are willing to allow marketers the opportunity to promote their products. Affiliate marketplaces such as Clickbank, Commission Junction and Share A Sale are great places to locate products to promote.

The Price:

The prices of the affiliate products sold online are usually preset. The merchants basically do their own research to find out what customers would pay for a certain product. Marketers are then given a percentage of that sale. The choice is totally left to the marketer as to which products he or she would like to promote based on the commission levels.

The Place:

The place is the most obvious of the marketing mix. The obvious answer is the internet. Being able to market online makes the playing field for marketers unlimited. Depending on the product a marketer promotes, they can literally use the whole world as a target market using the internet.

Promotion:

There are several different internet marketing techniques that can be employed to generate an audience to a product. The most effective techniques are SEO (Search Engine Optimization), PPC (Pay Per Click, email marketing, and article marketing. In my opinion article marketing is the simplest form of online marketing to commence your internet marketing aspirations; It is free to start and it is can also used to promote both email marketing and SEO.

It’s easy to tell somebody what they have to do in order to be successful online. The problem is, some people have problems doing certain things when it comes to promotion. This article is going to explore some of the most common marketing phobias and give you some suggestions on how to overcome them. Hopefully, after reading this, your marketing fears will be a thing of the past.

One of the biggest phobias when it comes to marketing is talking on the phone. Let’s face it, this can be a very scary experience. You’re talking to total strangers. Some people can be very intimidating on the phone or even downright nasty, especially if you call them during dinner hour. So how do you overcome this fear of talking on the phone?

One of the best ways, and don’t laugh, is to do some mock phone calls with either a family member or a friend. Make sure you have a script to read off of so that you don’t have to do this off the top of your head. Have fun with it. Make a game of it. By the end of the exercise, you’ll be laughing and having a good time and you’ll realize that talking on the phone really isn’t that hard.

Another marketing phobia is sending out emails to people. You don’t know what to say. You’re afraid that anything you put in your email is going to read like something out of grade school. You have absolutely no confidence in your writing ability. How do you get around this?

One great way is to actually take a writing course. There are tons of coursing out there not only geared to writing in general but to email marketing in specific. These courses will teach you techniques on how to communicate with people through email. You’ll learn what to say and, more importantly, what not to say. After a while, you’ll have no fears when it comes to sending people emails.

The last one I want to go over is Google Adwords. The big fear with Adwords is that you’ll end up spending a fortune in clicks with no sales to show for them. There is only one way around this fear. Get an education on Adwords. There are plenty of good books out there on the subject. Get one and read it.

These are the three most common marketing phobias. Once you have overcome them, by the simple methods I have given you above, you’ll be well on your way to marketing like a pro.

Create a video blog…instantly.

This article is probably going to get a lot of slack from the old pros at this game. I keep hearing all the time how the Internet isn’t really changing…how you can keep doing the same old things that have worked for years and do just fine. Okay, if you’re okay with doing just fine. But if you want to do better than just fine, you have to keep your eyes and ears open for what’s going on around you. I’m not saying that you have to jump on every new fad in marketing that comes out, but it would be wise to be aware of them…especially if one of them happens to be a ticket to some quick cash.

For example, when Squidoo first came out, it was a big hit with the search engines, especially Google. If you had a Squidoo lens on just about any subject, you were pretty much guaranteed a page one listing. This was a sure ticket to making massive sales if you had a dynamite product. Now, it didn’t last forever. Some spammers hit Squidoo and they slightly fell out of favor with Google, so now it’s harder to get a page one listing for your niche. But it is STILL an effective form of advertising.

Let’s take another example…social bookmarking sites. Now, just a few years ago, there were no such thing as social bookmarking sites…at least not on the scale that we have today. Sites like Digg and Delicious are two of the biggest sites according to the Alexa rankings. Know what that means? It means people go there. So if you have a hot topic and write up a good article or review, there is a very good chance that many people will see it and ultimately go to YOUR site because of it. This translates into sales if you have a solid product to sell. Certainly it is a great way to build your list.

These are two very specific examples but I think you get my point. The Internet is not a static environment. It is constantly changing. Video, which at one time was unheard of, is now all the rage. YouTube is ranked number 4 on the Internet according to Alexa. Do you think if somebody saw your video at YouTube you just might get some traffic?

So keep your eyes and ears open for what’s going on around you.

It just may mean the difference between success and the alternative.
